2002 Stock Brushguard
Well I have to admit a little shameful thing about my new X, it came with a Nissan brushguard.
They had to pickup the X from another dealer so I could get Silver Ice with the options I wanted and they subtracted the amount of the brushguard off the cost since I didn't want it nor did I ever ask for it. I think I've read enough in these forums to stay away from them. ![]() I must say tho, the 2002 brush guards seem a lot heavier than the old ones. They almost look like I could mount a winch on it! Anyone have experience with the new brush guards? Plan b is always to just rip the thing off and get an Arb w/ winch. |

If it's the one where they have to cut parts of plastic on your grill I would ask for it to be replaced.
Or is this the one that comes up from below and doesn't have light guards? Either way, it's best used as an anchor for your boat. |

Ouch that bad?
Ya it attaches to the frame in two places, one of which goes through a couple square holes cut in the front plastic piece. It has headlight covers. |

It's mostly for show. It will protect you from a get-a-way grocery cart, and maybe someone backing into you. But that's what bumpers are for. Nissan bumpers are cheap, so putting a more expensive part to protect a less expensive part seems counterproductive.
If it was me. I would have had the dealer remove it and replace the parts they cut into to make it fit. Probably too late for that. If you don't want it, you could always put it up for sale, and use some of the money to order the parts they cut. They're plastic and cheap. (order from www.xterraparts, your dealer probably would charge you too much). Anyway, if it doesn't bug you, keep it. Just be aware if you offroad with it, it could potentially cause more damage than it's worth. |

Sounds like a plan.
I didn't figure that front plastic thing on the 02's was too expensive. Probably just a pain in the ass to replace. Thanks again Schuld! |
