Removal of Exhaust Flange Gasket
I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana. I am need to replace the exhaust flange gasket. When I unbolt the exhaust flange, nothing comes out. Does the gasket set in an indention that I need to pry it from? Can't see because of where the flange is, so I need to know what to feel for?

If your old one is burnt out there may still be part of it left in pipe. Look at new gasket and you will see how it is made. But some of them do not use a gasket so look it over good. Good Luck

Re: Removal of Exhaust Flange Gasket
The reason I thought I needed to replace the exhaust flange gasket is that I hear an exhaust leak. The gasket that I purchased from Advance Auto Parts was some sort of metal. I bolted the exhaust flange back together and started the vehicle. I felt for leaks around the flange and did not feel anything. Where else could the leak/sound be coming from? Thanks for the help.

Start it up cold and listen and feel for leakage. Sometimes there will be a black spot around the leak. If all else fails run it by a muffler or repair shop and see if they can spot the leak.
