overdrive issue on 98

I have a 98 SE and I can't get the overdrive button (on the gear shift) to take therefore stuck in lower gears. Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this problem?

Re: overdrive issue on 98

Are there any other indicators? Does the OD light come on or flash? If it doesnt do anything at all, first check all the fuses and then the switch and then the solenoid in trans. Also all the wiring between. Sounds stupid, but check adjustment of brake switch also.

Yes, the OD light off flashes once I get to the correct speed.

You need to have the PCM read for codes. It is possible there is a problem with a solenoid or wiring. If wiring and solenoids are OK, then the trans may need to be rebuilt.
