Rumble strip noise from front of car

I have a 1996 Bonneville that will randomly make noise from the front end which sounds like you are running over rumble strips. You can feel it through the steering but not bad. I just had the front end aligned and everything is tight. The car does have traction control but it does not matter if it is on or not.

Re: Rumble strip noise from front of car

Probably wheel bearing, is it just sound or is it a bumpy ride.

Re: Rumble strip noise from front of car

Indeed my first thought was wheel bearing...this is a continuous rumbling that accentuates when you turn on one side and lessens when turning the other side. It is also independent of the torque applied to traction..does it as well when coasting. WHeel bearing is quite easy to replace.

THe other not so wanted option is "torque converter clutch" slippage..known as TCC shudder...which shows when torque is applied, disappears when releasing throttle. This can be tested by disconnecting the TCC solenoid at the plug going to the transmission. THis prevents TCC from applying..if noise disappears, you have your response.
Another option is constant velocity joints going haywire....
If you need more details just come back.
