03 Rear Window Motor

I have a bad motor on the rear door of my 03 XLS. I have the Ford shop manual and Chiltons, both of which say to remove the regulator to access and change the motor. They also say in order to remove the regulator, lower the window to access the bolt securing the regulator to the window.

If the motor is the problem, how do I lower the window???

I can clearly see through the door panel the three bolts securing the motor to the regulator and I am tempted to replace the motor in it s current position.

Any advice?
