Head Gasket leak?
I really didn't consider this until recently. Some symptoms are there. Every day I'll check the level of my coolant, and it always drops fairly low. I top it off with the engine running as it slowly gets lower and lower. I see bubbles so I thought I had a lot of air in my system. I'm still testing to see if it will ever actually "top off" and stop going down, then I will know that my head gasket is fine.
As for engine oil, the level stayes the same, there is no sign of coolant contamination (oil cap isn't milky white, oil isn't bubbly, etc.) Smoke out the tailpipe, on startup it's fairly white, and it depends on what kind of a day it is. If it's rainy it's usually fairly white, as well as if it's cold. If it's warm it's usually not. My performance is a bit studdery at around 1-2000rpm, but after that it runs smooth. Basically I wanna know is it possible to have a blown head gasket where the coolant ONLY enters the cylinders and not the oil passages? My coolant level goes down but my oil is not contaminated. |

Re: Head Gasket leak?
Do a compression test to be sure, but it could just be a leak.

Re: Head Gasket leak?
Sounds like a head gasket, that or the heads are not torqued down enough.

Re: Head Gasket leak?
I read that if there is a compression leak, and you have the radiator cap off with the car running and you rev the engine, the compression gases will displace the coolant and it will shoot out the radiator. Well that has happened while I was "burping" the system. I reved the engine and coolant shot out of the radiator filler hole. Would this normally happen or is it a sign of a blown head gasket?
