91 corolla keeps dying

Ok, I put a post on here about I go to start my corolla and everything will die in the car before it starts. No lights no engine, no nothing. To make it start I have to get out a wiggle the positive cable cause it seems to make the car come back to life and either the car will start afterwards or I go through the same process a few more times until it starts. I thought it might be the positive cable. But if the positve cable was cracked or dirty or had corosion, would that cause the whole car to die while driving. Ill go down the road and there have been several times where the entire car will just die. All lights turn off, the engine dies, no brake lights or emergency lights and again i have to wiggle that stupid cable, it seems to make the car startable again. Could I have a bad fuse or anything? I know there are several fuses in the positive cable, none of which I know of what they do. Anyone know what could be the problem?

Yes, a poorly connected battery cable can cause this. If you can wiggle the cable, then there is something wrong. Clean the terminals and secure the battery cable. Be aware corrosion can occur under the insulation.

I didn't know the terminals had insulation, where is this located at? Are you sure it would be just corrosion and not that the whole cable is cracked somewhere?

The insulation in case here is the the wires protective covering. Over time it can split very so slightly and the wire(s) corrode away with little signs of what's occuring. I'd replace the cable. Also, be certain you haven't inadvertantly overtightened the batter cable hold down bolt and stripped the battery terminal.

Re: 91 corolla keeps dying

perhaps not tight at the solenoid end where it connects to the starter motor
everyone automatically assumes it will be @ the battery
but there r 2 ends to the cable
also make sure the fuseholding piece on the + cable battery connection is not dirty too..this is all part of the connection and will cause that problem too
