fixing a manifold coolant leak
I took my 98 lumina in yesterday to have a new fuel regulator put in. while it was there they found a coolant leak on the manifold. i forgot to ask where it was exactly but the guy told me that i could get away with driving it around for a while with out any problems. i did some searching and it seems that there is some problem with the intake manifolds and was curious if this was something i could replace myself without too much work or if it would be worth the 900 dollars they said it would cost to fix it.

Re: fixing a manifold coolant leak
Get the intake gaskets replaced asap. You do not want to burn the engine up.

Re: fixing a manifold coolant leak
You want to get it fixed, and have them flush out the entire system to get rid of Dexcool, and replace it with good ole green antifreeze. BTW, I only charge $600 to do this complete job!!

Re: fixing a manifold coolant leak
Is your car a 3.1 or 3.8? Each engine has an intake coolant leak issue, but are different. The 3.1 intake leak is a bad gasket that allows coolant to get in the oil, the 3.8 is a defective upper plenum which allows coolant into the cylinders, both which can lead to catastrophic engine failure. Don't put this job off, do it ASAP.
