Salvage Title Questions...
Well guys, I have been on the search for a newer car for a daily driver. The Firebird has seen better days and I just need something a little more reliable...
I was looking at newer Trans Am's and such and out of curiosity I started looking for another DSM. I know, I know... They aren't reliable. But, that statement is actually not true. If these cars were left stock and maintained they would be very good daily drivers. That being said... I found another Talon that I am considering picking up. It would be just as well of a steal as the one I have now except for the fact that it is only FWD and it has some damage to the rear passenger corner. Now I have all the stuff I would need to fix it except for the rear axle and suspension parts that could be damaged back there. The only concern I have is about this whole salvage title thing. Does anybody know if it would be too much of a hassle in trying to bring it over here to Ohio and repair it under this salvage title? I have never dealt with the whole salvage issue before but figured it couldn't be too bad of a thing. Then again, I have heard some people having horror stories because of that lovely word "salvage". Can I get some input here? ![]() Oh yeah, here is a link to it. None of you bastards better steal it from under my nose. lol ![]() http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=1&cardist=100

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
call the notary or dmv they can explain it to you. I know when I was looking if you brought them from certain states the salvage disappeared on your title in that state. IT still shows on the cars report but at least you don't have the R title then..
That being said make sure that car has no frame damage that the frame needs to be straightened. It gets expensive.. Why not just spend a little more and get something you don't have to fix?

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
I wouldnt get another DSM. Get something thats sexy and maybe a bit more luxurious. Your Talon should tear enough ass, I would just get something to get you from A to B. Black 95 BMW 325i FTW

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
A BMW, eh? A friend of mine was looking at a 325i a couple weeks ago actually, except it was in an emerald green of some sort. I got to drive it for him and man did that thing have a bunch of cool stuff! It seemed all right, but after getting it inspected, there was about $3000 in repairs. If you can toss around some extra cash, why not, they're pretty sexy cars and the ladies love the bimmer
![]() For the salvage part, it really depends on your state. I know here in Sask. it's a pain in the ass. If there's rust, it wont pass inspection until that specific part is replaced. By the looks of that DSm, I personally wouldn't touch it unless I think that I could make a track car out of it, but as a daily it's out of the question for me. Also, since it'll be the daily driver, I'm assuming you'll be wanting to sell it in some point in time? I don't know your budget, or what car you want specifically, but you can definitely find better. Good luck! |

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
Well, my plans were to fix it up and use it as a daily driver only. The price seemed right since I already have all the extra parts to fix it besides any rear suspension/axle components...
I wish I could afford a newer Trans Am or BMW like I wanted but it just seems like so much money. I mean, I can pick up a practically new Trans Am for about 14k but I'm not sure if I wanna spend that much money. I mean, I've dumped enough into the Talon already but I need something reliable for a year round daily driver. Thats why I figured another DSM would be the way to go. They are cheap and I already have done enough that I can fix virtually anything on them. lol Here is the Trans Am near me that I am considering... http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r2=&make=PONT& BMW near my friends place... http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js..._mileage=&max_ And finally, an EVO that I would get if I just went out and got a brand new car... http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...000&cardist=69

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
Must be nice to have all that money to spend. Daily driver, just get something like a Cavy or something. Why spend a lot on a newer car or a older broken one? Just buy a Cavy with like 50k miles and you'll be good. You can pick one up for cheap in great shape. Plus, you won't feel the need to mod it bc you really can't. lol.

Oh and for the record. I don't have that kind of money for those cars. Its called car loans. lol ![]() Actually, after I posted that I found a cheaper Trans Am that might be more feasible to my needs. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ed=&max_mileag I just want something that looks good that I will love and take care of. I can guarentee that if I get something like a Cavy then I won't do a single thing to take care of it. lol

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
make sure you can get a car loan for something that old. many places have a certain year which they won't loan money too for afterward. I suggest maybe a subaru legacy, they are nice, awd, decent DD's and fairly cheap.

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
what you can do is take out a loan on the Talon... I took out a loan on my mom's 96 Grand Caravan(only got $1500, but that was a downpayment), and bought my '97 RS...

Re: Salvage Title Questions...
I wish I had money to buy a daily driver and put my car away for the Winter, but nope. Anyway, the Talon's nice. but I think $3,495, is a bit much for car with an R-Title IMO. Plus you have to fix it, which means more money that could go to your Talon or Firebird, I say it's not worth it, at least for that price it's not.
