93 Taurus Water Pump Help
So me and a few friends of mine set out to change the water pump on my car. We have removed all the bolts to the actual water pump but havent removed the pully for the belt. Do i need to remove this to get the water pump out or do i need to do something else that im missing. Any help would be appreciated. Cause the pump itself doesnt have any give in it at all and im not sure why.
Thanks |

Re: 93 Taurus Water Pump Help
I don't think I've ever done a water pump on a '93, so hopefully someone else will chime in.
That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if the reason there's no play in the pump yet is because the gasket was "tacked" to the pump and some sort of RTV gasket was used between the gasket and the block during a past water pump change. Those two items have glued the pump to the gasket and the gasket to the block. A couple of taps from a dead blow mallet will probably break it loose. Then you will need to be very certain you get all gasket surfaces completely clean before installing the new waterpump. -Rod |

![]() Taht's what I was thinking as I ahven't done my 92's (yet ), but in general, a RTV'd gasket gets heat baked on pretty well.
