security light

so i went to start the car today and the security light came on. I thought that was strange because I dont have anytype of alarm on the car at all. I was late for work so i said i would worrie about it later. I started driving it and it went off. Get off work start it up light came on started driving goes away what could this be.

Try cleaning your key.. sometimes when the resistor on it gets dirty it doesn't send the corrent amount of resistance, but yet just enough for the VATS to read it, and ends up tripping the security light.

If that doesn't work, than you can try buying a new key (which worked for me when that kept happening), bypass the vats, or replace the ignition tumbler.

Whats a good way to clean the key.

probably some electronics cleaner.

My '99 Grand Am had the same symptoms and they eventually led to the car not starting. Had to replace the ignition switch
