Locking Gas Caps

Just bought a locking gas cap. Gas prices are so high I don't want anyone to steal my gas. Have you bought one? Are locking caps better than non locking caps for fuel economy? I paid $15. What did you pay?

I think that's about what I paid. I had to get a gas cap when I lost mine while on the road. it was $5 more than a standard cap. and with the key on my keyring, I don`t forget to put on the cap anymore.

What about fuel economy

Was I misinformed? Could a locking cap give you better mileage?

it prevents your tank from being siphoned. As for increase in MPG, i doubt it.

I think I paid 13.99 I bought it after I came out and I had not even enough gas to make it to the gas station I filled it up the day it was siphoned. I was so fucking pissed.

Re: Locking Gas Caps

I've had my tanks syphoned and put these caps on and the problem has 'stopped'.

Only because I have my hunches on who did and they are too inexperienced to get around it.

Stealing is an art, if someone wants something you have, they will get it.

Re: Locking Gas Caps

Sorry your gas was siphoned. I usually kept the tank nearly empty. I wonder if there is something out there that can keep my cap attached to the car. I would spend $15 for it, would you? I really miss my strap thingy.

duct tape is only a couple bucks a roll.

Or if you really wanted you could use Gorilla tape which is like $5.25 I think, It's made from the same people that make Gorilla Glue! http://www.gorillatape.com/why.htm

You could probably tape, or glue, or screws to adhere a rubber strap to the gas cap and car. (probably shouldn't put screws into the gas cap though I think it needs to hold pressure?)

Re: Locking Gas Caps

I don't know if they're available aftermarket, mever looked, but most of the cap straps I've seen streach around the top of the filler neck and onto the cap.

Re: Locking Gas Caps

mever [meah 'vur] adj. - absence of event occuring, columination of english language "never" and redneckiese (partial blockage of mouth opening by chewing tabacco). Pronounciation enhanced after usage of spit can.

Clear things up a bit?

Still having a hard time locating the hollybilly spell checker.
