What is done to your car?. Obviously its not Ignition related at this point and if your fuel pump is original and your car takes 3 trys or more to start and it usually happens under more than 1/2 throttle accelerations. It is most likely your pump.

Re: Anyone know of a good LT1 mechanic in North Carolina?
I replaced the fuel pump when I did the ignition system I got it and the optispark from GM. The only mods so far is: SLP Loadmouth and K&N Cold air intake. The car isn't putting out any codes at all, and never has any trouble on starting. The break up happens sometimes while it idles, but on acceleration it constantly misses and skips. I can downshift into 2nd gear and get the rpms up and it will clear up a good bit after a few seconds but after it gets back into a lower rpm gear it breaks up again, you can get into a steady cruise and it runs perfect until you get on it. Sorry about the book and Thank You for your help.

What is the optimal fuel pressure for an LT1 and I will check it to make sure that isnt the problem.

Re: Anyone know of a good LT1 mechanic in North Carolina?
Huh, odd that the pump is new cause that sounds like the symptoms for a faulty pump. The problem with taking reading pressure's on the pump is that alot of times unless your engine is under load (in motion under heavy throttle) the pressures can appear to be normal. Under idle you should see around 38 - 41 though and with no vaccuum source (under heavy throttle) you should see 43 - 47.
A method a few people did that I heard is a good way of testing is to tape the gauge to the winshield and take the car for a ride and observe the pressure under WOT and make sure the pressure rises with no drop off. Ofcourse in alot of cases the pump check ball fails and doesn't allow the pump to hold pressure but this will be a dead give away as when you turn the ignition on and don't start the pressure will instantly drop. Another possible cause could be injectors or the very rare faulty fuel pressure regulator. O2's may be faulty as well or could even be a clogged cat.

to this. Drop a couple of cents to the idea is to have someone else with you to watch the readings and note them.. This way you perform the test a litttle safer, trust me, it can get hairy when you get frustrated, and it allows you to pay more attention to the car and re-create the problem. Have you checked all the fuel lines to make sure one isn't pinched? Any other work done right around the time the problem started? |
