To anyone who does resin casting:
I've working with the Alumilite Starte Kit, which I would recommend to any beginner. Now that i'm waist deep and v ery confident, I dont want to spend another $70 on the starter kit, or the high price alumilite "kits". Where do you all buy "BULK" resin / RTV ? I'm thinking along the lines of 5 gallon buckets or something. Any help is greatly appreciated! NOMADGAMER |

Silicones Inc. -RTV. GI-1000 or 1100 is your best bet. Use GI-2020A catalyst to improve the life of cured molds. |

Re: Bulk Resin
Five gallons??!! What are you planning to cast? I can't imagine using 5 gallons in the rest of of my natural life- let alone before the shelf life of the resin expires!

Re: Bulk Resin
i actually cast more than just scale model cars. I've used it to fabricate autometer sport/comp guage pods, as well as some other odds and ends. Plus, you can never have many slicks!

Re: Bulk Resin
IMO MPWR is right.
Resin and silicon have a shelf life (particularly resin) and 5 gallons is a huuuuge amount for hobby purposes. It could well go off before you use it. Buy resin in 0,5litre or litre bottles for the time being - it won't cost you much more and the total outlay will significantly less. Silicon on the other hand tends to get used up in much larger ammounts when you are making several different molds and it might be worth your while to buy this in larger quantities. Just my 2cents.

Except for the two I gave him links to. Vagabond and Silicones Inc. are used by many of the biggest long time casters in the aftermarket. |

Re: Bulk Resin
I actually fabricate real body kits in fiberglass/resin (automotive grade). Everything in white fiberglass was created by me.
