Radio wiring..

My little brother just inherited a 1993 Ford Aerostar, and as a birthday gift I offered to put in an aftermarket head unit that read mp3 CDs and some upgraded speakers (nothing impressive, just because the stock speakers were old and blown and the head unit was outdated). I replaced the head with a simple Sony unit, and I had a wiring harness. It took me all of 15 minutes. I then popped open the dash and installed two pioneer 5 and 1/4 2-way speakers that were rated at 130W RMS (should have been able to take anything that the Sony head unit could throw at them). They both buzzed, and at a realtively low volume. I went into the middle seat and removed the 6x9s and hooked up some of my indoor speakers from my home theater system (very high end). Still crackling at relatively low volume levels. It was beginning to crack at a volume level 14 or 15, and the head unit was set on the lowest bass. Either the head unit is messed up, the wires are messed up (unlikely), or there is an amp or splitter somewhere in the car that's messed up. When installing the head unit, I noticed that the wiring harness hooked up to front right, front left, rear right and rear left. The car, however, has 6 speakers: 2 5 and 1/4 speakers in the dash, 2 6x9 speakers in the middle on each side of the center bench, and 2 more 5 and 1/4 speakers in the rear hatch. Somewhere in that car, 4 turns into 6, and I'm not interested in ripping apart the dash and taking out interior panels to find it. Soooo....

My question for all you Aerostars out there is this: where can I find either an amp or the location of where the wires split? Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help you can give.
