can't get it out of park
this just started today. 91' c1500 2wd 175000 miles. Automatic
Twice today, I have not been able to get my truck into gear. It starts fine and then won't shift out of park. After a while I got it into drive and the second time i had to disconnect the coil to kill it. I can't even turn it off when this happens. No other issues with the tranns. Could it be the cable or the internal park switch, but why can i not turn it off even. Any Ideas, please advise. Is there anything I can do without taking it to a tranns shop? thanks all. |

Re: can't get it out of park
Most likely there is a problem with the steering column, not the transmisison.

Re: can't get it out of park
blue is headed in the right sirection....would start somewhere in the ignition switch....especially since you said you couldn't shut it off with the key.

Re: can't get it out of park
On my '97 there is a brake pedal lock-out. Can't shift out of park without pressing brake. If yours has this look here also.

Re: can't get it out of park
thanks for the reply, but it was the key cylinder lock and ignitino rack inside the column. 17 years and 200,000 key turns and it finally wore out. Not bad.
