Broken starter housing...

Hi everyone.Have an 1989 Lesbre T type with a 3.8. Wouldn't start this morning, determined it was the starter. When I pulled it out the nose piece was broken off.Anyone have any ideas?I would guess improperly shimmed but had it shimmed same as origional that was changed about a year ago.Never had this problem before.

Sometimes the starter will say "no shim" on it below the grime. Check that. I would put it back the way I found it unless I had reason to believe it does not go that way.

Hmmm... are these supposed to have a rear support on them?

Re: Broken starter housing...

Thanks guys.I put the new one in this afternoon using the origional shim.Same as last time.It works fine with no odd noise or anything.Going to go on the assumption it was a defective rebuilt. No rear support on these and no mention on unit about shims or not.Just one of those freaky things I guess. Thanks again.
