problems with the alarm and windows when it rains

a friend of mines cabrio has problems when it rains. when its raining the windows will go down on there own. the alarm will also go off sometimes when it rains.. I know this means a short somewhere but I don't know enough about the electrical system of this car to help her at all. the car was backed into on the passenger side. the molding on the door doesn't fit well and water gets into the door. i took the door off and dried everything out as best I could and looked around.. everything was damp and had some drips of water on it but there was no sitting water or anything.. when i plugged the power window switch in the car went crazy.. the back passenger window started going up and down and I could hear it popping the trunk lever. anybody have any idea what this could be... someone suggested that the door micro controller was bad..

Re: problems with the alarm and windows when it rains

I know it has been some time since you posted but I was looking into mine and found water inside the module for the windows. Someone told me this is called the comfort module and controls windows, alarm and other things. It is located behind the glove box on my 92. The water was inside so long that it dissolved a spring on one of the four relays inside and fused the points. I managed to get the points apart and fashioned a spring from another relay. Also found moisture inside one of the window switches which wasn't working. This sat for 8 months before I bought it and the previous owners weren't much on taking care of things but it was cheap enough so who cares. Once I saw that the window switches were $55 and change on line I decided to dissect as I can't imagine how much the module must cost. Hope this helps as I know what it is like for the windows to have a mind of their own.
