LED turn signals on side mirrors

The turn signal LED mirror lights on my '01 Windstar have begun to act up on the right side, looks like this (first photo on top):http://www.customvan.com/signal_mirror_info.htm. They are now stuck on all the time about half brightness (the top three bulbs are not illuminated). The turn signals and emergency flashers cause the mirror lights to work normally, as well as when I have the sliding doors opened. So far I haven't blown a fuse or replaced a relay/ flasher unit. It's just an annoyance. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: LED turn signals on side mirrors

Interesting. I had one of these mirrors apart recently to condition the motor and took out the sealed LED assembly and got some pics of it. I'm in the middle of building a website to put them on!

As far as the problem, I would suspect wiring as opposed to the assembly. I have no reason for saying that, just a gut feeling. I believe there is a ground somewhere under the passenger kick panel but not sure. I know all the stuff from that door grounds in a common place. Best to get a copy of the Ford service manual CD and check out locations and maybe even some troubleshooting steps.

I wouldn't expect the assembly itself just because you said it works normally when activated. I am going to guess a trickle of voltage getting through maybe. Would be good to test with a multimeter.

Anyway, sorry I don't have a definite answer for you but there are some places to consider.

Re: LED turn signals on side mirrors

I'll have to dig through the Ford CD manual I have and look over the wiring diagrams. It doesn't do it all the time, just enough to annoy me.
