Top ten worst cars

Saw on the news last week that the Aveo was number 10 in the top 10 of the worst cars. Kind of glad I sold my 2006 now. Always had this gut feeling that the car wasn't up to par. Here is the quote:

"10. Chevrolet Aveo Chevy likes to tout the Aveo as the “lowest-priced [new] car in America." In spite of their warning “content may vary,” it’s easy to see how they achieved that goal. From the hollow-sounding doors, bargain-basement plastics and skinny tires to the coarse-sounding engine that strains when faced with even the slightest incline, it exudes “cheap” from every ounce of its being. The Aveo also refutes the smart shopper’s mantra “you get what you pay for.” In the case of this captive Korean import, you pay little and get even less. - FW"

I guess the good point to make is that all the other cars cost a lot more and are rated worse so you lose less with an Aveo.

Big whoop. One person's/magazine's opinion. You know what they say about opinions...

Lists of Top/Bottom/Best/Worst of anything impress me little.

Not really one person's opinion. It is voted on by the readers, not the magazine.

So all those readers have spent time driving all ten of those cars? That's kind of hard to believe. If they didn't, it's worse than an opinion...it's opinion based on nothing.

If it's just the magazine's employees or some of the car's owners doing the rating, it's still the opinion of very few people and I do not put much stock in it.

What kind of credible report rates and ranks individual vehicles then you get to number one and see...1. ANY GM minivan

My experience with the Aveo completely refutes that write up. That's not to say the Aveo is the greatest car ever produced but it does its job well, as a lot of people can attest to. And I'm sure there are Aveo owners that back up that article based on their experience. Then you have those people where a piece of plastic falls off on the inside of the trunk and the next thing you know they're preaching about it being the biggest peice of crap ever made.
Do you really expect award winning performance for $8k? Come on!
I would put the Aveo in the top ten best cars for people who think it's stupid to spend a lot of money on cars.
A car is like any other appliance as far as I'm concerned. A car does not define you. It doesn't make you tough or cool or smart. It gets you from point a to point b.

Spend enough time talking to people and you'll see that even consumer reports beloved honda and toyota have owners that hate those cars.

The strangest thing is how many people were so quick to jump on that article from cr. I've had 4 people at work contact me in the past 2 days saying, did you see your car was ranked in the top 10 worst cars? My response is, why do you care so much? Does it somehow make you feel better to relay that to me? I don't get it. Does it make people feel superior that consumer reports thinks they are driving the best car? I'm better than you because my car is better? Hmmm...the people that approached me drive Honda, Toyota and Lexus. Why do people care so much about what I drive?

Everyone can STOP jumping on me. I did not write the article OR vote on the cars. I just thought it might be interesting to Aveo owners so I posted it. I made one comment that the article wasn't one person's opinion just to clarify. If these people all rented all these cars or own them or have relatives who own them, I don't know and don't care. Pardon me for being informative or trying to contribute to this forum.

I really don't see the original post as being at all helpful or informative, I find it to be more insulting than anything. But again that's just my opinion.
But seeing as you felt the need to post it, why would you get bent over the discussion that forms as a result of your posting?
Time and time again I search through various forums and notice that the forums are polluted with posts that have absolutely no value. It's annoying.
Think before you post...Maybe ask, is it of value to the owners of these vehicles to see an article that says they own one of the worst cars out there? I think common sense says no.
Maybe it comes down to the fact that you need to justify the loss you took on the Aveo that you got rid of.

I am Glad you posted it! This is a forum for discussions. I own an 04 Aveo i bought 6 months ago that was a 2 year old left over! I paid $7995 for it fully loaded 4 door hatchback. It had only 147 miles on it. For the most part I think its a terrific little car. Im taking it in tomorrow for the first time as it already has 14K miles in just the 6 months I have owned it. I drive long distance each way to my job and all 14k is highway miles. I dont get to read many magazines as i work a lot and to see this posted is the only chance i got to know that it existed! I hate to say but i think the head gasket went on my lil car. Runs rough and a slight milky white under the oil cap. Anyway.... If the post was .. you cars suck... that would have been a reason the be annoyed..

in a sense i agree with the article cus i mean lets face it the aveo is not an expensive car, made with top quality parts but it does get the job done. i love my little car and i am finding things to do to it to makle it more enjoyable to drive. i think it feels pretty sporty on the inside and i am totally comfortable in my aveo. i guess the thing is, if you dont like it, then dont buy it. i am not endorsing this article, but i am thankful for the information that phantom put out here.

also.. #6 Chevy Monte carlo... Hmmm I did read that the Monte carlo was rated the most problem free vehicle last year... I just love how they predict cars Just as bad as the weathmen do the weather!

My 2004 Aveo sedan is THE worst car by far that I've ever owned...and I've owned a few; even a '64 Buick. If the car was an airplane, we'd call it a "hangar queen". Good think I bought the extended warrranty.

Well, my opinion is, worst or best is relative. If you want to buy a car, you have to focus on many aspects, but some people just see one aspect and other aspects doesn't matter.

For example, my girlfriend drives a red 2004 Aveo, she bought it not because of the technology, price, or quality. She just loves the red and the shape/model of the Aveo. For her is the best car ever.
A different example is when a friend bought a Toyota Yaris, the model really sucks but he just love the VVT-i technology. He says that thats the best car ever.
For me, its all relative.

There's nothing wrong with your thread at all. All your post did was give Aveo owners a little 'food for thought.' Additionally, now that I'm in here posting a reply, I might add that one of my buddies bought an '05 new and the little 1.6L chewed a head gasket in 14k miles.
Anyone else have this experience?

Funny, I think most will comment the Aveo has one of the best quality interiors in terms of design and materials in its class. No dinky, cost-reduced for both RH and LH drive, center dash speedo mounted is a plus that's running over low class cars.
