need help on opening my hood without unlatching it!!!! BROKEN

Ok. so this morning i went outside to open the hood to my 1992 GSX and i lifted th handle and i had no response from the hood. I figure maybe the latch is messed up somehow and isnt catching but i dont know at all. i dont know the mechanism on how it works...is there any way i can open my hood another way without opening the latch? if so please tell meeee

Is there no resistance on the wire that connects to the latch? Does the release move freely? Sounds like the wire broke to me.

You have two options. First, you can try grabbing the wire with a needle nose pliers and pulling. If you still get nothing, the wire is broken. This leaves you with only one option. Break the latch open with a crowbar. It will cost you a new latch, but atleast you will get inside. This happened to my first car, and I ended up having a dealer replace it.

yeah, i have all of what you stated. if i do choose to do the crow bar idea, will that wreck the hood in any way (i.e. scratch it, dent it or what not), cause im not lookin to do that really.. not really lookin to spend lol

If you can fit your fingers behind the latch you can open it by moving the lever back there.

r u really in need to open the hood ? cause it you dont then take it easy, and it could save you few hundred buck for repair the hood.

That all depends on how you do it. Either way, you somehow need to break the latch if you want inside.

I wouldn't use the crowbar idea, you could bend up the latch and mouting both on the hood and on the car. You should be able to jimmy something under the hood and get it open. A long screwdriver maybe? If you're really desperate, the cable runs inside the left fender-well, you could cut it and then pull on the cable from there (granted it didn't break off before that point)

alright ive got a lot of good ideas on how to do this...thanks for everyones input on this!! hopefully this will work otherwise ill be right back on here lol
