'90 C/1500 wont start

Well... I just rebuilt this truck from almost the ground up.

I got it running yesterday; not a problem! But today I notices a slight miss at the idle... well; I noticed longer crank times since it originally started... then I pulled the truck in to install the stereo. Now when I try to start the engine it turns over fine; but it wont start.

I don't have fuel or Spark. Could this be the ignition module gone bad? I got a borg warner from AZ and did put the silicone down to help keep it cool. But no fuel; or no spark. Any help would be apreciated! Thanks!

Do you hear the fuel pump for 3-5 seconds when you turn the key on?

Yeah I did.

Well; I took the part down to AZ and it tested bad straight across the board. So now I am back on the road with 102 miles to a brand new engine! Pretty exciting. =)

Re: '90 C/1500 wont start

your final response was kind of confusing...which part tested bad?? the fuel pump or the ignition module? If it was ing. mod, do you mean the one in the dist. cap below the pick-up coil??

if it was the pump that was bad, isn't the pump in the tank under the bed? That's not something you can pull and test without a lot of work.

just curious for my own repairs and I just did not understand which part you got tested that was bad.

thanks

Re: '90 C/1500 wont start

from reading his post it sounds like the ign mod, his first post stated that he did not use the heat sink grease under the module I really didn't have to read any further to guess what the problem was if you do not use the grease the module will blow fairly quickly, this from personal experience of forgetting to use it and blowing my module, I had just rebuilt my top end and wanted to just get it all back together, OOPS!

Sorry; I typed that up when I was half asleep.

The fuel pump is fine. It’s the ignition Module that was bad. I took it too AZ and it was bad all the way across (they test 5 areas of it) I did use the heat sink grease. But it failed in five months anyway. I have heard that the only good modules are the ones from GM them selves. But; its on the road for now!
