What's the best sounding muffler?
I want to free up a little power with a 2.5'' header back exhaust. I've got a magnaflow cat (keeping the jeep street legal)... Now I need a muffler and headers. As for headers, I think they will all be comparable, but some will last a little longer. I think most any muffler will give me a power gain (+ or - a little hp/tq)... but the sound is what worries me. I don't want a 4.0 Wrangler to sound like a Honda with a "fart can" muffler! I've looked at Remus and Borla mufflers... What do you all think sounds the best on the 4.0? I'm open to any suggestions... And model numbers help a ton. Thanks again!

Re: What's the best sounding muffler?
I have a flowmaster series 40 that sounds good on my '98 SE 2.5L with a magnaflow cat. The headers aren't a problem on mine yet, they were replaced under warranty maybe a year ago. I'll probably do a CAI soon, and maybe headers later on with roller rockers also to help with the acceleration and revs.

Re: What's the best sounding muffler?
Flowmaster would sound good on the 4.0L, I'm sure. I've heard that Borla's probobly the best though. I'm still debating on a header. And I'm seriously looking into cams. (The cams will increase the low end tq by 10%... but that's not enough to justify the price!) Anybody heard a Jeep with a cammed 4.0L? Thanks!

Re: What's the best sounding muffler?
I just found this.... I love it!
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...B+header&hl=en It almost sounds like a Dana 35 exploding. ...Although I'm sure this doesn't add more that 30ft lbs

We added a magnaflow muffler (under $100.00 installed) to my 2001 Wrangler (2.5L) and left the stock manifold on (sounds beefy). Also installed a throttle body spacer, cold air (K&N) intake filter, and the high spark ignition system.
Having installed all the power/milage modification (short of a supercharger) now my Jeep has increased power (75 mph with no problem) and increased milage. I think my 2.5L will keep up with the 4.0L engines just fine. I recommend to you is 'do your homework for simple modification' to increase your Jeeps proformance. There are some Jeep 'www.4bangerjp.com' websites. Happy Jeepin

Re: What's the best sounding muffler?
I'm starting out with the 4.0L, so the website may be different, but the advice is still the same. You're right about just doing simple power modifications. I think the key is displacement and gearing (with the 4.0L). ...I'm just fighting the urge to treat this like my Eclipse!
: ...and I definately want it to sound different!
