Towing With 01 Passport

Has anyone had any experience towing with these passports. It is a 4wd v6 lx. I have a 6x10 trailer that i haul my motorcycle and 2 4 wheelers on. It pull it w/ my truck all the time but i sometimes would like the extra passenger room to be able to take both my kids riding. Are the trannys in these capable of towing without any damage? The trailer is not that heavy, well balanced, and i used to pull it sparingly w/ my 1996 olds cutlass w/ no problems. Also i am just wondering if i got a decent deal. I bought this from an individual and was able to get a 12000 mile warranty transferred. It is in great shape and i gave $7300 for it. If the towing is ok i now need to find a hitch,.

Re: Towing With 01 Passport

Put a class 3 hitch on her; don't be afraid to downshift when needed, specially if you live in the mountains; and have a ball of fun.

That kind of weight isn't anything to worry about.

DO make certain to change your transmission fluid EVERY 25-30k miles; if not, this is where the problems began.

I've been towing a 4k# boat with my '97 Rodeo V6 automatic for 9yrs - not fast by any means, but it's done the job.

Re: Towing With 01 Passport

It's an ideal truck for that type of towing. Like ramblin says, any type of towing will require a more aggressive trans servicing schedule. No big deal. Most importantly with the 1998-2004 3.2/3.5 is they can consume oil. Checking the engine oil level is a must at every fuel up when you are long haul traveling or towing.

Re: Towing With 01 Passport

i already check the oil at every fill up, unfortunately thats about every 2 days. I drive about 100 miles a day to get to and from work,. i know i can get 300 miles from a tank but i just play it safe and get it every 2 days. I dont live in any mountains, so the towing would be really very little. Only once or so every couple of months. I just had the tranny flushed and filled when i got it. so i should be good on that for a couple of years.
