HTML Question About IE 7 Tabs

I have a website that I play around with and when I want a link or page to open in a new window I have always used target="_blank" to do so.

My question is what coding can I use to open a link or page in a new tab instead of a whole new browser and what effect will this have on older version web browsers.

Re: HTML Question About IE 7 Tabs

I don't know about IE (since it's a piece of shit), but with Firefox you simply set it up in its settings to open into a new tab or a new window. I imagine it'd be the same with IE, it's dependent on the individual user's settings.

I'm not sure if there a specific tag yet for that, i'll look around a bit later and see. But even if there is a tag you will run into issues with people overriding window/tab handling in the browser settings like Tosk mentioned.

Re: HTML Question About IE 7 Tabs

I am not knowledgable in code-speak or anything, but if I understand your question then the answer is simply Ctrl. Hold ctrl while you click a link and it opens in a new tab instead of a new window.

And while we're talking about IE7, would you happen to know how to make it so it allows scripted windows so I don't have to "click here to allow scripted windows" everytime I wanna post a link or a pic on AF?

I think you are right. I can set a page or link to open in a new window but it is up to how each individual user has their options set as to whether it opens a new tab or a whole new browser. I wouldn't want to try and override someone settings.
