Jeep stalling problem

Hello everyone,
I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0L engine. It has 205,000 miles on it. I recently had to replace my altenator. While losening the tension bolt for the serpentine belt I broke what looked to be a temperature sensor on the engine block. After I got the car back together the car would not start unless I constantly gave it gase. I went to the dealership and bought a new one and installed it. It seem to fix the problem. However, when I went out the next morning to start the car it would turn over but would not start until I actually gave it gas. The moment I take my foot off the gas the car dies. However, if I put the car and gear and am able to get the car up to 30 mph (it's an automatic, so I have to actually drive on the road with two feet) it runs perfectly fine and does not stall. It only happens on cold startup after the car has been sitting for an extended period of time. I have a feeling it is a computer problem but I am not sure. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Try this:
Disconnect the battery..wait 5 minutes and reconnect it. Then try to start the engine. Report your finding here and maybe we can think of what to test next.

I did like you said and it was unsuccessful. Thank you for the tip though! Other thoughts? Thanks again to all those that are helping on this problem.

Well, I'm a chill'ish character...

So, here you go- Get UR self some carb cleaner, and ...

-Is there an IAC on a '96? [IAC= idle air control(er)] Hell, I dunno. If there is, clean/replace it. (Since you bought the carb cleaner, clean out the throttle body too!)

-Sounds like a lack of air or gas. - Fuel, Air, etc... Filters. Fuel Pump? Non-Vented Gas Cap Leaking? [To keep fuel preasure? Then again, it's a '96???]?

-Someone's Grandpa used to say, "Start with the least ex$pensive part(s) first, and go from there..."

Good Luck!- That's what I say...

-Don't forget the ol' plugs and wires while you're at it...

-Have you tried turning the ignition: on-off, on-off, on-off, On (quickly), and look at your trouble, (diagnostic), codes yet? Or go to have them checked at somewhere like Advance / AutoZone? They can usually on a good day, give decent advice...

-PS, if you don't have a repair book yet, pick one up from Advance Auto Parts.

I would double check the temp sensor part no.; should be 3300 4281.

Then check for vacuum and or intake manifold leakage next.
