Exclamation 1997 jetta tire/lugnut problem

I have a 1997 jetta gls and when I tried to rotate my tires the other day I came across a problem. I have one lugnut on each rim that needs a special "key" to remove it(supposed to prevent tire theft). I knew this beforehand and I have never had a problem with it, I have the necessary "key" that goes with the lugnut.

When I was using the tire iron to remove the lugnut with the key, the lugnut got stripped out(the lugnut is not very solid and is made of two pieces). The outer part that fits with the key cam all of the way off the other half is basically the thread part that screws into my rim. It is a horrible design and I was wondering if anyone else had any problems with this or any tips on how to remedy this situation. I probably just want to get rid of the anti-theft lugnuts and replace them with the same one's that are in the other 3 spots on each tire. Thanks.

Re: 1997 jetta tire/lugnut problem

i also have the anit-theft wheel locks and in my neighborhood they actually do serve a great purpose, however if you would rather have all lugbolts on there you should call your nearest vw dealership and im sure they'd be more than happy to take your money and give you four regular lug bolts, or if you did a little research (on thread pitch etc.) i would suggest you get on ebay or some place like that, you can always get a better deal, the dealership should be your last resort, for everything
