87 Firebird 2.8 engine trouble
I just picked up a 87 firebird w/ 2.8 and the engine just wont stay running. What it does: you can start it and it dont seem to be firing on all cylinders, you have to keep the throttle atleast 1/2 way pressed just to keep it running, at 1000-1500 rpms, it will useally stall out 30 seconds after you finally get it to fire. Put a computer on it and it is giving a wierd reading about the oxg sensor but that I am sure that is because of the way it runs. Someone said about a part by the camshaft, inside the cover, that has some sensor with a magnet and said if the magnet fails it will cause this to accure but I never heard of this before but then again this is my first 2.8. any help would be great. Thankyou Duckman028

Re: 87 Firebird 2.8 engine trouble
How do the plugs and wires look. Are there any vacuum leaks that you know of? If you put a screwdriver up to the injectors, can you hear them clicking?

Re: 87 Firebird 2.8 engine trouble
Sounds like it could be any of the following... Plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, o2 sensor, vacuum leak... It really wouldn't hurt to replace all that stuff on a motor that old anyways.

87 Firebird fuel injection puzzler
I am still working on my 2.8 engine problem and now I discovered what I believe is the problem all along but once again don't know how to fix the problem. I put in new: wire, plugs, 6 injectors, oxy sensor, cap, fuel filter and after all this, still would not run. Soooooooo I decided to lift out the fuel rail to make sure all the new injector were operating and that is when I noticed that only the left side of the fuel rail (all 3 injectors) was spraying. I looked for fuses and found nothing wrong so I switched all the injectors from left to right to make sure the injectors were good and I cranked the engine and once again the left side of the fuel rail sprayed but not the right. So for some reason I am not getting signal for the right side injectors. I also replaced the ECU. If this makes any sense PLEASE shine some light on the on this problem...... It will soon head to the scrap yard... Thank you, Duckman028

Re: 87 Firebird 2.8 engine trouble
sounds like a wiring problem the injector harness could be burned through or it mught be unplugged or something, follow the wires

Re: 87 Firebird 2.8 engine trouble
Hmmm... Definetly sounds like a wiring problem. Possibly bad injectors?
