Where is the best place to get a wiring diagram for our 2004 Taurus? We bought a Chiltons but it turns out that doesn't list hardly anything

Re: Wiring Diagrams?
I don't think Autozone.com will have any diagrams for your 2004 yet in their "Repair Guide" section. It would be worth a look though.
You local public library may have service manuals with wiring diagrams. You may also want to consider Alldatadiy.com. For a reasonable yearly subscription, they offer access to information and diagrams from the factory service manual. -Rod |

Re: Wiring Diagrams?
Yes, there is a business relationship between Autozone and Alldatadiy.com. What they offer is available in book form, is is called the Helms manual available online or from your dealership. The Alldatadiy information is from the factory service manual published by Helms.

We originally bought a Helms manual but the wiring diagram was very bad, so we exchanged it for the Chiltons (which is also bad). The we found out that one of the companies owns the other. Is the book you're talking about a separate book from the traditional repair books found at car parts stores?

Re: Wiring Diagrams?
Did you originally buy a Helms manual, or a Haynes manual? The Haynes manual is on par with Chilton, but the Helms is what the dealership will sell you.

They said that dealers do not carry any kind of books or wiring diagrams. Went up to the library but they stop at around year 2000 (need 2004). I wrote to Haynes but they said they do not have a book on the Duratech engine either. I'll try contacting some book stores next

Re: Wiring Diagrams?
The dealer probably doesn't stock service manuals, but, at one time, the back of the owner's manual had information on how to order the service manual through Helms. Maybe they stopped providing that info.
That makes the $25 for a one-year subscription to Alldatadiy seem rather reasonable! It's the same data that would be in the factory service manual anyway. Good luck with whichever route you choose. -Rod |

Re: Wiring Diagrams?
Search the internet auction sites for Ford repair DVD. They might be bootleg, but they have the info you want. I have factory DVD;s and would not be without them.

Thanks for the idea way2old. Just bought the one pictured below. It covers every Ford, from 2000-2004, complete with wiring diagrams for each car. It was 15 bucks so we'll see if it's the real deal or if I just got scammed. My fingers are crossed

Re: Wiring Diagrams?
I have purchased CDs from a fairly popular auction site on the internet for several Ford/Mercury vehicles and have been very satisfied. I used them to augment my Haynes manuals.
Years ago I purchased a Helms set for my new 1983 Chevy Caprice wagon for $100. Well worth it. There was a separate manual just for the electrical wiring. I have not looked into Helms again since then. At that time the books had no photos, just line drawings. Haynes and other books I purchase have photos. The Helms of today may have photos, but I have been satisfied with the Haynes and the cost of $15 or so is a good deal. |
