Normally you need a tool to turn in the emergency brake adjustment. Some are fairly cheap a K-d 4 sided tool you put on a ratchet and it has pins you hold tight and turn in the adjuster. Auto Zone has a tool loaner program.

I have not have very good luck with the cube compressor, mainly because it does not aid in applying force to compress the caliper while turning the piston.

As rhandwor suggested though, many of the chain auto parts stores have a loaner tool program, and usually have a nice kit for compressing the rear calipers. This 11-piece kit works wonderfully, and as long as you return it within the generous time period, won't cost you a thing to use.

Re: removing rear calipers help lincoln ls 2002

I did get pads at autozone tonight and got the loaner tool kit set. have to bring back when done. My question is or how do the calipers come off. Is there just bolts holding them on? I did do the fronts on the car but not the rears. Will do this Saturday Morn. Im not going to turn the rotors down cause they seem pretty good. So hope the calipers do come off easy and with the tool i can compress the pistons. Are the pistons single or dual pistons?

thanks for the replys

Re: removing rear calipers help lincoln ls 2002

I think you will find it very similar to the front, and pretty much self-explanatory. The caliper is held on with two bolts. Look at how the parking brake cable is routed, and you will probably be able to remove just one bolt and rotate the caliper out of the way enough to access the pads. If not, then remove the second bolt and support the caliper.

The pads just ride in the carrier and will lift out. Compress the single piston with the tool in the kit, install new pads, put it all back together, pump the brakes up before driving, and you should be good.

Good luck!

Re: removing rear calipers help lincoln ls 2002

Thanks for all the replys and help.
Was able to remove both bolts and replace the pads and use the tool from Autozone to screw in the pistons. All and all it was easy. The hardest part was turning in the pistons.

Thanks again for all the help sure is good to know in advance if there is going to be any show stoppers.
