Hot burning smell

We have a 2002 Mazda MPV and we are getting a hot burning smell when we drive it. Last week it cut out on us right in the middle of a fast moving lane and we ended up having to replace the "Map Sensor." It is driving fine now, but it still has the burning smell and we are afraid that whatever is causing it might have been what made that sensor go out. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the smell or what we should check into?

Re: Hot burning smell

Does it smell like antifreeze or is it smell like something electrical overheating.
If your engine temperature is ok look closely at the wiring harness at night with the hood up if you notice arcing repair it. You can mist water over it and hunt for arcing.
Also check for brakes overheating smell each wheel. You can also feel a sticking caliper be careful can get burnt. Also check for a dry wheel bearing.

Re: Hot burning smell

Thank you so much for your reply to my thread regarding the hot burning smell. I have been in bed with the flu since I submitted, so have not been able to respond back. I will check on all of these things you suggested. It is not an antifreeze smell it is more of an electrical hot smell. I hope one of these leads will be it. Thanks again!
