Drivers window inop

The drivers side window will not go down when I push the button. The passenger window will go down though. I took the switch out of the door and all the wires are still attached. I'm not sure if its the switch or something worse inside. thanks for the help if you can.
2001 Grand Am GT1 2 door.

Re: Drivers window inop

Welcome to AF !

Thiers 1 cicuit breaker,
in the passenger side fuse box check that first.
(its probly ok since the passengerside works)

Then try cleaning the switch out with some compressed air.
Wiggling it back and forth sometimes helps too(temporarily).

The plugs connectors(copper colored parts)are also known to get corrosion on them,
from what I'd assume is when water leaks down the window into the buttons.
Can also test it with an ohmmeter, not sure which two prongs to test right off though.

Lastly they totally come apart, I'll post a pic.

Window button to the left you'll see that rubber piece, it covers the switches insides.
The tiny white squares are the actual triggers(buttons) for the window.

The button top that you use to push up & down, they pry off to the side .
They snap off/on , -[__]- this would be them upside down.
Those center lines are the area the pins snap into the switch housing.

Hope that makes cense !

Re: Drivers window inop

Xero...couldn't it also be the actual window motor within the door?

Re: Drivers window inop

Haha !
Yes it could be the motor.

Though the motor usually give signs of it going out,
its a 2001 unless he contsantly rolls it up and down,
I dont see the motor being the problem, but you never know.

May also hav a fuses for each window, that I'm not aware of on the 01's....

I was looking for a wiring diagram.....

Re: Drivers window inop

Thanks xero for the info with the switch. I tore it apart and sure enough the white square had broken off and was nowhere to be found so i guess i cant glue it back on. So tommorrow i'll be heading to the junk yard and hopefully find a good switch.

Re: Drivers window inop

Are you sure it was broken and not pressed in ?

Might get lucky,
sometimes it'll stick down, try flicking it and see if it'll pop back up.

If not you surly can pick a used one up cheap.
Pretty sure 99+ 2door switch will work
