timing question

Hello everyone I have a 91 VR4 it has a y downpipe front mount intercooler, boost controller, aftermarket airfilter, and a greddy BOV,184,000. I have only owned the vr4 for about a two weeks now (had a SL previously) Last night i was under the hood cleaning the inside of the Plenum (around the butterfly) and i think i bumped the timing unit (no idea what it is called). The guy i bought it from either lost the nut that holds it in place or it fell off. I need to know how or where the timing mark needs to be. either point me to a thread or can someone help? I would appreciate it so much Thank you

Re: timing question

you need to be more specific. your story is conflicting. the "butterfly", which i take to mean the throttle body, is on the passenger side of the plenum. the timing BELT is on the driver side. i don't know what timing "unit" you are talking about, but there is no unit. what exactly did you bump? if you're having difficulty describing it, take a picture and upload it (photobucket.com is great for uploading pics to the internet).

please read our FAQ thread and welcome to AF!

Re: timing question

Ok after looking through the faq area closer i believe what i moved is the cam angle sensor. If by moving this the timing mark can be moved then that is what it is. if i have still confused everyone i will get the pic uploaded when i get home tonight. maybe i will either way so in the future it will help someone else. the unit sits directly in front of the plenum and under three wire connecters. it is in between the two heads.

Re: timing question

i forgot that ignition timing was adjustable on 91-92 yr model cars. is this the bolt that was loose and the unit that you bumped?

Re: timing question

i got the picture from this page http://stealth316.com/2-ignition-timing.htm. in general, www.stealth316.com is an invaluable resource. the guy is an engineer, and explains everything in very detailed language.
