Question occasional backfire through the carb

I have a 88 Jeep YJ and it runs as good as it can for its age but sometimes when it hot after driving awhile it will backfire, I think through the carb when decelerating, also kind of sounds like a crackling, snapping sound when decelerating and only happens when hot. It accelerates fine and otherwise runs fine except for this occasional problem. I just had an emission test today and it passed easily, the readings were excellent so that is an indication that everthing is in good working order. Any advise would be great.
Thanks
