Code 32 - EGR replacement?

Hi All,

I was wondering if anybody has any idea if the EGR itself or the solenoid or whatever would need replacing for a Code 32 (EGR circuit fault (EFI/TBI) for a 89 9C1 350 TBI.

After driving on the highway, at about 60mph or more, for approx 5-10 mins, I get a SES (Code 32). I have looked it up, but still not sure what would need to be done. (EGR circuit needing replacing?). Once the car is turned off, the SES light does not come on until I go back on the highway.

I was getting a code 45 - Rich Exhaust while back, which my mechanic looked into it and told me it was more of a temporary code being triggered and not to worry about it.

Things done within the past year, full tune-up, new distributor, ignition coil, idle control motor, fuel injection cleaner.
I was also told the EGR was working fine as he suspected at first it was the EGR causing my car to stall sometimes.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Code 32 - EGR replacement?

A Code 45 could be a plugged air filter.

A Code 32 can be caused by a vacuum leak on the EGR solenoid - check all vacuum lines and ensure they are hooked up properly. Also, check the operation of the EGR valve itself. With the engine idling, if you manually operate the valve (by pushing against the diapragm on the underside), it should stumble a bit.

Re: Code 32 - EGR replacement?

It is likely a vacuum leak somewhere then, as the EGR was just checked last month and working fine. Will have that looked into. Thanks!
