smoke?
so now the car smokes.
it is white. but very moist like water. smells like gas not oil. i know i'm running rich. it comes out just lil at idle, and when i give it gas more comes out. if i let off the gas in gear or idle the smoke stops. after running till op temp i drove it around. the whole smoke thing happened so i stop at a gas station. and let it run at idle for like 3 minutes. the smoke stopped. so i got in and drove a lil more. the smoke was still coming out but not as bad. so what do you guys think? do i just need more break in miles or did something bad happen? thanks in advance.

Re: smoke?
I say its just condensation. Was the smoke more white and puffy like chimney smoke or more steamy like boiling water? Check your plugs and maybe lean the motor out a little. Make sure your timing is perfect.

Re: smoke?

the plugs are good. how do i lean the motor out? it's like a mix of both. when i step on the gas it's puffy smoke, but dissipates quick. when it's at idle it's steamy smoke. i'm going to get the valves adjusted again tomorrow to make sure it's not oil leaking in. the head gasket is good. nothing leaking out. also going to get a compression test tomorrow. if that doesn't fix it then i'm gonna get a big sticker that says "THE FOG MACHINE" lol.

1. Burning coolant 2. Hot air from the exhaust hitting the cold air on the outside. Don't forget, H2o IS a byproduct of the chemical process that happens in the catalytic converter.

Re: smoke?
I'd say your burning coolant to..the white smoke is a give away...you just rebuilt that engine right? if so maybe you have a small leak in between cylinders? enough that coolant can seep into the cylinder. Or the headgasket is damaged by one of the coolant passages and is trickling into one, or more cylinders. Being that your in the desert bam bam's #2 doesn't seem very likely

Re: smoke?
when i first noticed the smoke, i went and retightened the head bolts. you know just in case. i was there when the head gasket was put on and when the head was installed. i did it my self. i know the gasket isn't damaged.

You could also be leaking coolant into the intake manifold through one of the hoses. Does it smell sweet? Here's a true test...but be careful. If there is liquid inside your tail pipe, taste it...but DON'T swallow it. It's not a big deal...just taste some on your tongue and then spit it out. This is the test I use to see if something is either water or coolant when it is leaking or burning. It's not politically correct, but it works. Just make sure you DON'T swallow coolant as it is poisonous and can kill you. What headbolts are you using? What headgasket? what block/head combo? what torque specs/sequence did you use?

Re: smoke?

Re: smoke?
no the smoke is definitly white. maybe it was just the residue i tasted.
either way it tasted like shit. the shop i use/work at is open tomorrow so i will definitly get a compression test on all cylinders.

Re: smoke?
I'm not sure how many coolant hoses you have on the bseries intake. Personally I would just make sure your intake gasket is intact incase coolant is seeping in through the coolant passages in the intake, right into the combustion chamber. I'm not sure what bam bam meant about the hoses...you would have to have a leak directly in the intake for any leaky hose to be a problem right?
