1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
Have a 1995 Blazer that I bought new. Nice truck till the warranty expired.
I realize this vehicle is long in the tooth age-wise and milage-wise but I just replaced the Delco fuel pump for the 4th time in the past 6 years. Replaced in Mar2000;May2002;Nov2004; and now again, Nov2006! Before I jump to conclusions I am wondering if the Blazer is hard on fuel pumps or if this is "normal". My 1993 BMW 325is is two years older and has 125K miles still with original fuel pump. My 2001 Tahoe with 98K miles still have original fuel pump. In general, what is the life expectancy of a fuel pump? And oh yes, the Blazer's pump is in the tank making it very labor intensive to replace (so they tell me). Its about a $500 hit every time to replace.

Re: 1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
Do you change your fuel filter regularly? And I suggest you replace it a couple of miles after the fuel pump.
I have 150,000 miles on my original pump. 1995 Blazer. (Im sure it will go out on the way home from work now that I said that.) I usually try to change the fuel filter every 30k or less. On my last truck (1996 sierra), the pump went out at 110k. Found out I was the first one to replace the filter. |

Have you checked the wiring good. Good 12 volts to pump and good ground? And as said check and replace them fuel filters. Are the pumps quiting hot or cold running or just losing pressure?

Re: 1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
Yip, fuel filter for sure and check the grounds for proper connection.
Also, prime the pump before you start. Turn to the on position before start and allow the 3 second prime cycle to finish. You are having a voltage surge that causes this. Might be the reason. Bad starter causing a voltage spike etc....

Re: 1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
Also don't let the fuel level go too low. When you do this you are sucking all the crap at the bottom of the tank up and may be starving the pump of fuel which also cools the pump.

But 150K is not bad mileage on one.

Re: 1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
Wow, that is really good for a fuel pump.
Mine on my 1995 went at 130,000.

Re: 1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
NAPA has the wiring on the vehicle side for 13.00, which also comes with you 500 fuel pimp, it could be that the wiring is shorting like they're prone to doing and replacing the ends cures it for a while. You can replace the harness w/o dropping the tank as well. Good luck!

Re: 1995 Blazer Eats Fuel Pumps
You should try to switch the relay for the fuel pump to a 4 pronge relay and if it still doesn't work keep trying to switch the relays around you should have four of them under your relay compartment ( 4 that look the same) unless you pulled out the fuel pump and hooked it up to a 12v power source and there was still nothing

It is good that people are trying to help here.
But this post is about 4 mo old. Started 11/9/06 last year. Always check the date on a post before answering. It is better to let old dead post to rest in peace. MT
