starting problems 1997 Lesabre

My car has been acting wierd lately. Most of the times my 97' Lesabre will start right up. But after i put some gas in her she doesnt start right away. I have learned to wait about after the first non start to wait about 2 or 3 hours and she starts right up like there no problem. But i know there is a problem but since i just got this car over the summer I need some help with figuring out what might the problem might be. Is it the fuel filter? that was my first thought but i wanted to make sure. Thanks for the help

Guessing. >>>>>Fuel Filter... Fuel Pump Flow and pressurehere too..

Best recommendation is to disconnect the battery for ten seconds and reset the startup settings in the computer. Go from there.. and read the codes.

Need more clues from there such as..
When it is in non start is it no fuel or fuel pulses to the injectors or no spark?
Could be flooded too! Smell any gas in the exhaust?

Divide and conquer!

Keep posting..

Good Luck

Also it would be good to know if the engine is turning over. You say that it doesn't start after you get gas. What about just shutting it off and restart?
Regards

Dan

Re: starting problems 1997 Lesabre

ok took it to my mechanic, he pulled the codes, it was my fuel pump. Darn, had to give him 400.00 bucks to fix it. But now I have a problem with the gas gauge. Not operating right, not giving a true reading of how much gas I have in the tank. Well at least i got the car running but now have to fix the gas gauge.

Re: starting problems 1997 Lesabre

Your mechanic probably screwed up the level sensor in the fuel tank. Take the car back to him and have him correct the problem(for free).
