How did points go away?

Hello Experts,

My niece got 3 pts for speeding violation 2.5 yrs ago and of course her insurance has gone almost triple since then. She did not qualify for traffic school but she did talk to the judge in good faith and paid for her fine ($550 ouch!) and the judge said the pts would go away in 2 yrs.
Her insurance said it took 3 yrs for the pts to drop from her policy. Any idea what she can do to make sure these pts are to go away as they should?
Does she have to go to DMV? (CA state).

Many thanks.
shin

CA may be different, but in many states the points are taken off of your license, but the violation remains on your record for some time, and is subject to insurance company review(especially things like DUI). Most states' DMV sites have a tool where you can check your driving record (often for a fee) and you can always go down to the DMV and get a copy of your driving record.

Welcome. You may also want to check with the insurance company, most will tell you what their standards are.

Re: How did points go away?

Insurance points are different from driver's license points. Just because you have no drivers license points does not mean that you have no insurance points. Each insurance company can set their own standards which means that there is a lot of difference in the market. You should get at least three quotes. If pays to get online quotes even if you plan on staying with the same company since they will be notified you are "shopping" and are likely to give you a better rate.

Next time hire an attorney. There is no such thing as "good faith" in court.

Re: How did points go away?

Here in GA, it is 5 years for the points to clear, most insurance companies hold on to the violation for that ammount of time. So even though the points might be gone, the insurance will still hold it against her for 5 years.
