Unhappy what would you do.?

ok i just bought a 95 plymouth neon.. mtx with 91k on it.. body is a lil rough but for the most part good.. the engine ran fine when i got it but i have had it on the road for only a few days and now its leeking oil really fast... i can get a used engine froma junk yard for 325 without a core.. i only payed 250 for this car.. do you think this would be work fixing? i have the engine out rt now.. and it is leeking out of the block on the back of the engine by the oil filter. at first i though maybe it was the head gasket or out of the crank seal but it apears to be coming out the block what should i do? junk the car and get something else? or fix this one.. i really want a 95 or older car bc of where i live so that way i dont have to worry about this dumb inspection thing on the 96 and newer cars.. or is there a way to fix the leek? is this car even worth fixing? would this car be worthy of PIMPIN it out...lol... bc i would like to do alot of things to this car.. i did have a 06 roush focus.... but i sold it an bought this hunk of junk!...lol thinking i would be able to do some minor upgrates... any and all help would be helpful as to what would be the smartest thing to do.

Re: what would you do.?

first thing is the fix is cheap haha thes a 7 dollar gasket that normaly causes oil to leak at the rat e you are talking about from that exact same spot.. its the cam seal on the top of the motor behind the cam gear its a pita to change but its a cheap fix atleast goodluck

Re: what would you do.?

Is it the Rear main seal?

Common oil leaks are:
Rear main seal
Headgasket
Oil Sending Unit
Valve Cover
Canshaft Position Sensor
Oil Pan Gasket

Re: what would you do.?

how do i know if its a rms? or if it is the cam seal?and in either case do i need any special tools to change either these seals? should i do it myself or should i take it to a shop? i dont know how long it should take to get an engine out of a neon.. but it took me like 5 hrs.... a friend of mine has a 91 plymouth sundance. he said he would sell for 300... which only needs a valve cover gasket and a drive side window... and it has like a 300 $ sony cd player.. would the engine out of this car bolt to the mtx in my neon? i think this car has a 2.5 in it.. but im not sure... with about 60k miles..

Re: what would you do.?

To replace the rear main seal, you would need to seperate the engine and transmission to get to it.

The engine from the Sundance may fit, but then you are going to run into a wiring nightmare.

Re: what would you do.?

now the whole reason why i bought this neon was bc i wanted an older car that i could do anything i wanted to it.... do u think if i get the leek stopped on this car would it be worth putting a body kit on it and a bunch other stuff.. and doing things to the engine or swappin the engine with a Crate Motor Short Block 2.2 Stroker without core from howellautomotive.com
this engine price is 2749.99 or any other crate mortor from this site... i would like to build a really fast neon... have like a sleeper.. most ppl here dont think neons are that fast.. but i know they can be... any help would be app.

LOL, then it should be easy to change the rear main seal. Yes the neon can be quite fast and quick. Are they worth modding? Not really, but they are fun to mod. Don't expect to get your money back if you do mod it, just an FYI. I have seen real nice turbo neons sell for around $2000-$3000 and it was worth more in parts than whole.

Rear main seal is about 12" below the top of the trans.

Re: what would you do.?

im not planning on selling the car if i mod it.. .. does the rms go all the way cross the engine? bc its only leeking under the alt. on pass. side of the car.. and umm if i did get that 2.2 stroker would i want 8:6,10:5 or 12:5 pistons and would i want a forged cranckshaft?

Low compression is better for a turbo than higher compression, so you would need to ask yourself what are your plans for the engine, N/A or Forced Induction.

Then get the lower compression engine.

It's behind your crank/harmonic balance pulley. You don't need to remove the timing belt.
