Question GM Stock Cars--Ballad of the Ghetto Rides

Alright, we have 2 relatively stock GM products:
->a 1992 Buick LeSabre Custom

and

-->a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

One is excellent (the 92 lesabre, of course), and the other.....the "malibu" is a PoS :

My question is, if you were to race these rides down the ubiquitous quarter mile, which one would win?

(Since some people like to talk this up but never actually test it, I thought I'd ask some people who might know)

Thanks,

This should be in the non-specific forum, but for the record when both were new, the 92 would win.

Which engine in the Malibu? If the 3.1L, it might be a close race. The info I read theoretically would put the Malibu slightly ahead with a 0-60 of 8.5 vs the 0-60 of 8.8 for the LeSabre.

Re: GM Stock Cars--Ballad of the Ghetto Rides

I'm going to say the 3.1 liter engine, since when I've driven the car it feels to have a lot less power and grace on the acceleration.

That might just be due to the fact that the Series I 3800 comes to power at a lower rpm for a quicker start, but I think there are other factors involved with that

For a car that is 7/8 years old (depending on how you judge), and only had 20,000 miles when he got it, it has had more problems than my 14 year old ride with 129k miles on arrival.

His car was apparently neglected....if it were a child the feds would have put it into protected custody.

2 weeks after it came, the alternator went out (allegedly), the aftermarket remote entry was miswired, Best Buy screwed up installing the PoS alpine radio, and his radiator died, creating Old Faithful Jr. in the parking lot.

So I'm doubting that even if the car has the potential to beat mine that it will ever reach that potential. Sadly.

**and driving the car felt horrible...when I had to do Drivers' ed in a Chevy Cavilier that just survived world war III I felt like I was driving a superior car....

But getting back from the tangent, are you positive that the : could beat mine on a quarter mile?

Nope, not positive of it at all.

I only relayed the best information that I could find and I'm not even vouching for that. It's just what was out there...

Re: GM Stock Cars--Ballad of the Ghetto Rides

Thanks for the help--my friend like to talk his ride up, but he won't even agree to a strategic race...let alone a drag race lol

Oh well...I'm not one to pass up a challenge, especially one that insults the ride that saved his butt many times before he got his neglected car.

a ride with 20k miles shouldn't need over 2k in repairs.....that's 10 bucks a mile in costs.

Even my 14 year old car wasn't fouled that badly.

BTW, is lesabre paint flaking in early models common? I remember we had an early 90s ford tarus wagon (purple) which had the worst paint imaginable, but I didn't think that it was a widespread epidemic.
