Electrical System Question

We have a Scouting event at which we're selling food this Saturday. I just found out that there is no power available at the site. I'm wondering if I can use my power converter in the rear powerpoint in my '99 Windstar to power 2 coffee urns? I'm thinking I can plug my converter into the pp, then plug a power strip into that to get 2 outlets. My battery is a month old.

What do you think? Will I start blowing fuses?

Thx,

Re: Electrical System Question

Yes, you will blow fuses unless you make some direct hook-up to the battery for the inverter. Your fuses are 20 amp, or less, that means a maximum of 200 watts continuous, or so, after inverter losses.

A coffee urn can easily be 1000 watts (my guess), or so.

If you hook more directly to the battery, you can probably get by. Just make sure some other vehicle is there to "jump you off" if you drain the battery. A second spare battery would also be an option.

You could also let the engine idle. The alternator is probably in the 1000+ watt range.

Re: Electrical System Question

Ok, thanks. We've come up with an alternate plan so looks like I won't have to do this.
