Blower Motor Wire assy

Hi, I have an 01' cvpi and I noticed something strange on the waireing assy powering the blower motor. It seems there is an added component in between the original cannon plug and the motor. I can removed it w/o modifying anything. I was just curious what this item might be. Thanks
