02 F150 tranny problems

2002 F150 4x4 4.6L Automatic trans.

I have never had any transmission or engine problems with this truck, however I was driving home from work one night and while accelerating from a stoplight, there was a small "clunk" and my truck wouldn't move. I rolled off to the side of the road where I determined that it would move, just very slowly and hesitantly until around 15 mph, when it would pick up and move somewhat normally. It acted like if you were to drive a manual without using 1st gear. It seems to be stuck in 2nd gear, except for the fact that it will go into reverse with no trouble. Once in reverse, it acts the same as it does in drive. I took it to a tranny shop which ran the codes and said that a bunch of solenoid (or something like that) codes and a torque converter code came up along with a misfire in one of the cylinders. I have always made my own repairs to my vehicles but when it comes to transmissions, I don't know crap. Every knowledgable person that I have spoken to says it sounds like water damage to electrical components. I do take my truck off road often, although I hadn't for at least 2 weeks before this happened. I just find it unusual that I would get tranny and engine problems seemingly out of nowhere and not under any extreme driving conditions. I just think that if it were water damage it would've happened as soon as everything got wet, not 2 weeks later.
Also, a few days before, I had to replace the alternator and starter, both of which were less than 2 months old because they mysteriously went bad at the same time. About a week before that I had to rebuild my rear differential because I blew it while off road. I doubt that these are related to my current problems (at least the differential anyway), but I've come to realize that with Ford, anything's a possibility.
I was just wondering if anybody had experienced similar problems, or had any insight as to what may be wrong.

My 01 f150 made the clunk ans would stay like you said 2nd gear. Went to tranny shop they said the sun gear whatever that is had broke that was the clunk. Went ahead and had a rebuild while replacing sun gear about 1300 bucks all is good now..

It is very possible that when you diff went out it placed preasure on the tranny weakening it. then when the time is right, broke. 4x4ing is a very expensive hobby, plan on tranny, diff's, axle's, engine mounts breaking either while or after you off-road. This is true with any vehicle, not just Ford.

{salinasmando} i have read what you have said and i told the local tranny shop about it (the sungear) and they do not understand what that pc is please can you provide more info.
