boost gauge

I have a boost guage on my Mr2 that shows 1st gear at 5 psi and second at 7 psi. I tested the boost with my buddies boast gauge and it showed 1st gear as 4 psi and 2nd as 9psi. anybody know why there would be such a disparity? my buddies gauge is much newer.

if I want to run street slicks on the rear tires ... how wide can I go?

thanks

Re: boost gauge

It would be best to test boost in 3rd gear or higher as you might not make full boost in the lower gears. As for the difference in the gauges, everything has different levels of quality.

Are they reputable brands?
Are they plumbed into the same location?

If you everything is running right on your car, you should be able to get up to 11 psi of boost.

As for a "street slick," I'm not sure what kind of tire you are talking about specifically as there are different kinds of slicks out there.

As for how wide you can go, that would depend on how wide your rims are and how willing you are to "adjust" the car to get them on. I'm running 275s in the rear.

Re: boost gauge

by street slicks do you mean drag radials? they are DOT approved slicks pretty much. slicks with a bit of tread.

sometimes gauges are off, when I first got my autometer it was sitting at 4psi, took it back and got a new one hasslefree, stick with a reputable place and you'll have no issues
