Question Help Changing Rear Rotor-'02 Suburban K2500

Team,

I am going to undertake my first repair job on a vehicle in a LONG time (highschool) and could use suggestions / links to "how-to", etc.

I have a 2002 Suburban K2500 (3/4 Ton, 4x4) with the 8.1L V8 engine. It is making a gross grinding noise from the rear left wheel.

In a brief inspection, the noise appears to be coming from the emergency brake shoes (the pads look fine).

The job:
I am going to replace the rear left rotor, brake pads and e-brake shoes. If the pads are easy enough to replace I will also do the rear right pads (and check the rotor to see if it needs to be turned)

Are there any tips out there for this job?

Should I have any special tools - or can I do this with a standard 3/4" socket set, screw drivers, jack/jack stands, etc?

Has anyone done this before?

Thank you in advance for you help. BTW - I think this setup where my e-brake has ruined my rotor is absurd - - I don't even use the e-brake when we park!

There are updated e brake shoes and retaining clips to correct the e brake wear problem, should get them from a dealer. Rest of the job is straight forward.

I was told there was some kind of a bulleton out on these trucks about a pin braking that holds the "parking brake" in place. I wonder if the dealer will fix this given this may be the case?

What you heard is in my post about the clip holding the shoes, this is an update no recall.

Thank you for the response again.

BTW - that picture in your signature looks a lot like my first car - it was a 1964 Comet with a straight-6 and three on the tree. I miss that car sometimes - times like this I guess when something needs to be done on a newer car . . . working on that car was easy!

I wasn't even close (though, the grill looks very similar) - - I'm thinking I should get the brakes done by someone who could've made a closer guess :P
