Re: 2002 auto trans fill

Which engine and drivetrain (4WD, AWD, 2WD)? Are you planning to change the filter as well?

Re: 2002 auto trans fill

If you have the 4.0 V-6 it is REQUIRED that you take it to the dealer. these are a sealed transmission that require servicing at 100K! And to fill them requires a computer to monitor trans temp, not to mention a "special tool to refill the tranny.

Re: 2002 auto trans fill

The factory service manual has a section on draining and filling the 2002 5-speed automatic transmission and it DOES NOT REQUIRE that you take it to a dealer. It requires a special adapter to allow you to connect a common suction gun tube to the drain plug for refilling, but that doesn't appear to be all that uncommon of a piece. No mention of connecting a scan tool to monitor the transmission fluid temperature.

However, it would certainly be easier to pay a dealer to perform the maintenance, and that SHOULD insure the proper Mercon V fluid is used.
