Cleaning the engine compartment???
Quick question...
When degreasing the engine compartment, do I need to worry about any electronic components getting wet or sprayed with high pressure wash? I know in older vehicles you need to cover the distributor and such, but would I be ok going down to the local car wash and hosing my engine bay down with degreaser and then rinsing it with high pressure spray??

Re: Cleaning the engine compartment???
I've done it...I just steered clear of the battery and it's general vicinity (fuse block, etc.)

Re: Cleaning the engine compartment???
I have an opinion for ya.......If your truck runs fine then Leave it alone.....It would be really cool to Wash/degrease the Engine Bay and then all of a sudden have issues......I know I might catch a 'lil Flak over this and actually expect some but I dont have to worry about the associated problems that Might come with Jacking around under there......

Re: Cleaning the engine compartment???
If you are going to do it, make sure you keep the engine running.. if you turn it off, and wash it, you have a higher chance of it not starting again.

Re: Cleaning the engine compartment???
I did mine with just a can of degreaser and regular garden hose pressure . I have heard that high pressure will force thru electrical fittings and seals . flowing water is no more dangerous than driving in the rain . Rob

Yup, I've probably washed my engine bay a dozen or more times since I got my truck a year and a half ago. I use Scubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner where there's dirt. I let it sit for a minute, then hose it all down. I'm sorry, I don't like driving with a dirtball under my hood. Fine, if you're a soccer mom, but I'm always looking at something under the hood, and I like to be able to see it and not need a shower after I've handled it.

Re: Cleaning the engine compartment???
I did it... at the carwash... with their degreaser and...
she started right back up and purred like a kitten. Drove her on the highway afterwords at 70mph to dry things out. Came out looking like the day I brought her home from the dealership. I do like the Scrubbing Bubbles idea, though... I think I'll try that next time.
