1999 SL2 Automatic, Which engines will fit?
Have 1999 SL2 which uses 1 quart of oil in 300 miles and engine is noisy. What used Saturn engines will fit? Assume the SL2 means dual overhead cams. Mine is.

only the saturns 1.9 liter will fit directly in the bay with no mods.

Thanks. I'm a bit dense though, on what models have the 1.9 liter. Did it come in a variety of years. Anything earlier than 1999 for example.

Re: 1999 SL2 Automatic, Which engines will fit?
the 1.9 engine, weather SOHC or DOHC, was restricted to saturn S-series cars. the dohc engine changed mid year in 99. the most noticible differance is the placement of the throttle body, ether to the side of a aluminum intake(earlier) manifold or on top of a plastic manifold(later). i'm not sure what problems would arise from swaping the 2 designs(wiring harness would be a issue) but if you have the earlier design, a 98 engine will drop in, and i beleave back to 95 will work with swaping the fuel rail and a few other parts. for the later design, 2000-2002 should work fine.
