2000 Intrepid Heater Smell

Does anyone know how to disinfect the heating system on the 2000 Intrepid?

Now that it is getting cold in CT, whenever I turn on the heater, I get a musty, almost molding leaf smell. I have tried spraying Lysol down the vents which seemed to help a bit. I do not believe that there is a replaceable or servicable cabin air filter...the dealer had no idea as well.

I have had success disinfecting the A/C system by spraying Lysol into the lower intakes when the air flow is in the recirculate mode (A/C on, Fan high), but this doesn't seem to work in the heating mode.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Make sure the drain for the fresh air intake for the heater and A/C is clean and clear of leaves, debri, standing water. There should be a small drain tube.

Other than using Lysol or something similar, the only thing I can think of is to take the system apart and cleaning the parts in the dishwasher. This would be really involved.

If you have doubts about the existence of a cabin air filter, the best person to ask at the dealership would be the person at the parts counter.

Thanks for the suggestion...Is there anywhere on the Net where I can get a diagram showing this fresh air intake system? It must be on the left side (facing the engine) since the regular air intake is on the right...Or does this connect to the engine air intake?

Funny thing, I took the car through a car wash on Sunday and some of the smell went away...

Best!

Best place to get a diagram is the parts counter at the dealer.
